Here's a great article one of my clients sent me from the Wall Street Journal on the changing thoughts about fat causing heart disease:
http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052702303678404579533760760481486 We're back to the discussion of flu again and how to avoid it and how to treat it if you do get it. Dr. Mercola has written about this so thoroughly that you should read it, too. You can watch him make chicken soup.
Watching the news makes you want to run out to get a flu shot until you realize that the shot contains mercury (very toxic to the brain), doesn't prevent the flu, and increases the likelihood of a hospital visit. See http://drdavidbrownstein.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html. I'm not making this up!!
It's great to read the blog of Dr. David Brownstein. He has a lot to say about the flu vaccine (http://drdavidbrownstein.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html), the dangers of osteoporosis medicines like Fosomax and Actinel, the iodine deficiency in this country, and more. Your best protection is to avoid sugar, artificial sweeteners, starchy foods, and get to sleep at night. Sun exposure during the day raises your vitamin D levels which increases your immunity. Or you can take vitamin D3 daily, depending on what your blood tests show you need. If you are sick, take 50,000 iu's a day plus 10,000 -20,000 vitamin C, and up to 25,000 units of vitamin A daily for a few days. As I was sorting my papers on my desk, I found Dr. Lynne August "Facts About Cholesterol" written in 2002 which I will refer you to if you click here. Her first fact states that "There is no proof that cholesterol causes cardiovascular (CVD). CVD includes heart attacks, strokes and blood clots. The fifth fact states that heart attacks occur in people with normal and low cholesterol. The eleventh fact says that "Excess animal (saturated) fats and excess sweets and carbohydrates increase cholesterol. Too little animal fat deceases cholesterol too much. Eggs do not raise cholesterol. Eggs do not damage cholesterol and arteries and do not generate free radicals or plaque.
Dr. Mercola has a lot to say about statins on his website, and their link to diabetes, exercise-related injury, and should not be taken during pregnancy. See his article "Beware: This Popular Drug Can Actually Cause Diabetes." I'm back rereading Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution. What a great book! For maintaining blood sugar balance you need chromium and zinc. And I am quoting from his book on page 147:
Leithin granules- 2 to 3 tablespoons daily sprinkled on food. Borage oil- 2 to 3 capsules daily Omega-3 oils like fish oil containing EPA and DHA. 1500 to 2000 mg very helpful in lowering high triglycerides. Some do better with flax oil, freshly ground. Remember oils go rancid very quickly, and some professionals prefer not to use them for that reason. Chromium picolinat 200 - 600 mcg daily Pantethine which is involved in cholesterol metabolism. 900-1800 mg daily Niacin- 1000 to 2000 timed release which controls cholesterol Garlic- lowers cholesterol, benefits blood pressure, kills acute infections, controls Candida. You can take it in pill form. Carnitine- helps in the transport of fatty acids, helpful for angin, cardiomyopathy and heart rhythm disorders. helps lower triglycerides or raise HDL. 50 -1500 mg daily. Fiber sources: Psyllium, glucomannan, carageenan, pectin, guar gum. They bind cholesterol in the gut and decrease its absorption. However, Dr. Atkins believes it's better to give the body all the cholesterol it needs and then enhance the systems of the body so the liver doesn't produce so much. Antioxidants: A, C, E glutathione, selenium, cysteine, and bioflavonoids. 3 to 6 capsules. (note: other antioxidants include melatonin, and Masquelier's grape seed formula called "Tru-OPC's".) |
